10 + 1 rules for a responsible tourism

It's me, Rivo, the guide who will help you make the most of Venice. Are you coming to visit my beloved city? Then you can't miss the tips that I've prepared for you! I'll show you how to explore Venice in a respectful and conscious way, immersing yourself in its wonders.

1.

Venice is made to get lost in

It may sound odd, but believe me, the hidden treasures of this city are to be found off the official routes. Just forget your GPS and go for it.

2.

Soak into the atmosphere

Enjoy the islands of the Venetian Lagoon and explore the mainland, join the events taking place in the Metropolitan City to really feel part of it all.

3.

Savour the city

To get to know a place also means discovering and tasting local and typical delicacies, which I'm sure you'll fall in love with.

4.

If you like a good beach time...

... you can visit Lido and Pellestrina, which can be reached by public transport and are wonderful spots. In town, on the other hand, and for your safety, you can't wear swimsuits, dive, swim or camp.

5.

Discover local artisans

A visit to the traditional workshops of ancient craftsmen is a must. And please, choose only original products and never purchase from unlicensed street vendors.

6.

Do not stand in the way

Streets in Venice are narrow and very crowded: always walk on the right and do not stop on bridges. Bicycles are not allowed in the historic centre.

7.

Make your stops at the right places

If you have a packed lunch, choose one of the public gardens. Respect the city and avoid sitting on monuments, church steps, bridges, wells and banks. Learn more here.

8.

Choose licensed tour guides

They are the best people here for you to experience the magic, the charm and the millenary history of Venice, and to discover the most intriguing anecdotes.

9.

Be careful with separate waste collection

If you choose to stay in a flat, please help to recycle waste. Just as if you were home.

10.

Contribute to the well-being of the city

Keep it clean, enjoy the beauty without writing on the walls or leaving padlocks and respect the local wildlife - don't feed the pigeons though.

11.

Enjoy the city without the crowds

Last tip, but no less important: plan your journey on days when Venice is less crowded and keep in mind that on certain days an Access Fee is due for day visitors.
